Why choose between going to a chamber music, folk, or symphonic orchestra concert when you can hear all three genres at a single concert? Integrating musical idioms, ideas, and vocabularies, both intentionally and intuitively, has always been at the center of Greg Bullen’s work, and on Wednesday, May 24, three of his pieces will be performed in a concert that contrasts not only musical genres, but musical forces as well.

Best known for her work with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, pianist Lura Johnson is showcased in the final work on the program - the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra. Joining her for that performance is Boston-based conductor David Hodgkins leading the Adesso Chamber Orchestra, a 25-piece ensemble comprised almost exclusively by musicians from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.  In the second work on the program, Mr. Hodgkins is joined by baritone Aaron Engebreth, a string quartet, and Ms. Johnson at the piano in the premiere performance of Three Folk Ballads. Ms. Johnson and concertmaster Netanel Driablate open the evening’s program with a performance of an early work, the Sonata for Violin and Piano.

The concert takes place on Wednesday, May 24 at 8 pm at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Ticket prices range from $12 - $20, and can be purchased online at Eventbrite.com, at gregbullenmusic.com, or at the door.
